Today, for the first time, I am conversing with the readers of Viva (a weekly Loksatta Suppliment). I need to share a very delightful news with all of you. Many-a-times you feel obstructed with expressing the fountain of your emotions. That’s why I am using this mean to convey my feelings. The reason for delight is that I, Sriram and kids are coming back to India!

Bollywood’s dhak dhak girl, Madhuri Dixit is all set for a homecoming. She once reigned as the undisputed queen of the silver screen for a decade, but with the new brigade of divas, most of them half her age, would she find a place in the industry? And more so with hardly any roles scripted for women above 40, does a comeback of an ex-queen hold much chance?

With her thousand-watt smile, Madhuri Dixit ruled Bollywood for almost a decade, before abandoning a flourishing career to get married and settle in the United States. After a 12-year gap, the gorgeous actress is moving back to Mumbai with her family to relaunch her career.

I was just out of college, on my first job, when I met Gautam Rajadhyaksha. He was imperious, immaculately turned out and impatient with little twits.

Madhuri gets to know of her dear friend and in many ways, mentor Gautam Rajadhyaksha's, death late in the evening in the US. Her first reaction is of disbelief. "I can't believe he's gone! He was still so young and vibrant. The last time we spoke he was so excited the school he was starting in Pune. Now he has left behind so much unfinished business, and so many memories."

Sundays hold great importance for actor Madhuri Dixit Nene. The reason, the actor explains is simple. “As an actor I’d forgotten what Sundays are like. I’d worked round the clock and on all days. The day of the week had stopped mattering to me,” she reveals.

Madhuri Dixit was at the peak of her career when she married Shriram Madhav Nene and decided to leave Bollywood to head to Denver, US. That was in 1999. Now, over a decade later, the actor has increased the frequency of her trips to Mumbai; some for work, some for her family.

Wonder, what makes Madhuri Dixit, a perfect celebrity, a lovely wife and an adorable mother? The answer is ‘Food’. Yes, the art of cooking has made her just the right home maker, though the actress confesses that she indulged into cooking, only after her marriage. Madhuri shares little details about how food has always been an important part of her lifestyle, what food gets her closer to her husband, and what is the diet that helps her remain beautiful.
